Date! (for bitunlikely)

Bart's door opens onto the inside of a (FANCY-SCHMANCY) restaurant, the name of which the narration will not divulge at this time. Bart managed to set up a reservation, under a v. fake name, and use some of the money from Inari to pay for this, so... they're good.

And he holds the door open for Jenny. HE IS A GENTLEMAN, you see.

She beams at him and nods, stealing one more glance down at the menu.

"I'll get that then."

Awkward silence indeed. Jenny fiddles with her napkin and glances at Bart. Is this what people do on dates?

If so, she doesn't know if she likes it very much.

Bart is sensitive to these things.

Thus, he sort of facepalms and says, "Oh god, I'm doing this totally wrong."

Jenny blinked and quickly reached for his hand to give it a somewhat reassuring squeeze.

"Doing what wrong?"

"The.. date thing. Sorry."

She was still having a difficult time following. Jenny blinked a couple more times, looking at him with further confusion.

"...I wanted to do this right, for you. But I'm not really good at the whole formal date thing."

"We're at a restaurant, aren't we?" Jenny inquires, still looking at Bart with confusion. "And then we'll go for a movie or a walk or something similar, right? What are you doing wrong?"

She tried her best to keep the hurt off her face.

"You're not having fun?"

"Are you? Because you didn't... look like it, but I could totally be spazzing on my Jenny happiness-meter."

"I'm with you. Why wouldn't I be?"

At the very least, she feels that it's that simple. Jenny offers Bart another smile and squeezes his hand.

"Just didn't expect dates to be... be this awkward. Are they? Are they always this awkward?"

"First dates are especially, sometimes. I didn't think it would be for us, because... it's not like we don't know each other or anything."

Jenny sipped at her water as she listened to Bart's explanation, thinking it over. It made her feel bad. She wasn't any help, was she? Everything was just so new and she wanted to understand every aspect of an actual date.

"Maybe," she murmured. "Maybe all first dates are? Like the first time we had sex? It's just meant to be strange?"

"At least we're talking now."

Jenny nods eagerly and gives his hand another squeeze.

"Yeah," she agrees. "I'm glad. No one else I'd rather have my first date with."

"So let's make this one memorable."

CLEARLY THE WAY TO DO THAT IS TO DOODLE A LITTLE JENNY ONNA NAPKIN.

"It already is," Jenny answers, blushing slightly. She leans across the table to look at the drawing.

"Is that supposed to be someone I know?"

Her cheeks redden further.

"Can I keep it?"

"Once it's finished."

And, unsurprisingly, she leans over to kiss him.

Right when the waiter brings the food.

Psh, the kissing is WAY more important than the food.






Waiter is amused. HE WILL WORK AROUND THEM.

It's when the waiter clears his throat that Jenny pulls back, smiling happily. She glances down at the appetizers that the man brought and then up at him.

"I think we're good for now."

Glance to Bart. That's what she's supposed to say, right?
