1. Bart is the product of a Romeo/Juliet kind of romance, in the sense that his dad’s family (Allens!) and his mom’s family (Thawnes!) do not get along. At all. Bart has been acutely aware of this ever since he was a little tyke, and was always considerably more comfortable around the Allen half, as were his parents.
2. Despite the family rift, he was at Grandpa Thawne’s research facility for a school project when the experimental chemicals that later kickstarted his superspeed accidentally entered his bloodstream.
3. There was a time delay between the chemicals and the lightning. Bart remembers both, and he also remembers waking up from a coma several months later.
4. He didn’t handle it well.
5. When medical people started noticing WEIRD STUFF in the comatose kid, Grandpa Thawne fought tooth and nail for custody of Bart to investigate this properly. His parents won, and when he woke up, they uprooted the family to Manchester, Alabama for maximum safety from crazy patriarch. Bart was never aware of this.
6. Bart didn’t run away from home like he told Clark. His parents told him they couldn’t deal with him anymore, just go and don’t come back. So he did.
7. He misses them. He also blames them for not sticking with him when he needed them, but he knows he was being difficult. Which is why he doesn’t really understand why new peoples at Milliways bother with him; if his parents wouldn’t stick with him, why should they?
8. A lot of the time Bart’s difficult on purpose to people, just to see if they will give up and go away.
9. It doesn’t matter to him if the ones he’s just met and doesn’t care about do, but he’s secretly terrified that, one day, the people who matter will give up on him.
10. He’s not sure what would happen to him if one of those people was ever Jenny, and he doesn’t ever want to know.
